Ninjas in Nature Youth Programs

Program Description

Our youth programs fuse the ancient arts of the ninja with nature survival and sensory awareness training. Oh, we also play a lot of games. Our curriculum is designed for ages 7-12, and we have occasional teen assistants who are a part of our youth leadership program. We aim for small group ratios (1:8). Our weekend (Shinobi Sundays), homeschool, and afterschool programs are usually 2.5-3 hours duration. Our typical schedule involves arrival skills, a group circle, a group game, focused skills time, and then a wrap-up circle. Our curriculum is based on  7-10 program days that have a curricular theme (we call them "Pathways"). Some of the themes include: shelter, fire, water, food, awareness, movement, invisibility, and more. We introduce skills of basic ninjutsu (the art of the ninja). We do hands-on skills often involving wildcrafting and woodcarving. Students also keep a "ninja notebook" where they record the skills we do and complete optional "home ninja missions." Many of our skills have been recorded in our video library and we often share these links with students for home preparation and study.

Students have the option to complete skills and progress along our ranking pathway. We have 5 ranks in our curriculum: Nin, Kame (Turtle), Ootori (Firebird), Tora (Tiger), and Ryū (Dragon).

Dai Shihan Mark Roemke

Our program is run under Pathways Dojo which is led by Sensei Mark Roemke (15th degree black belt in ninjutsu).  Sensei Roemke has been awarded the highest rank possible (Dai Shihan) below that of Grandmaster, and is licensed to teach under the Grandmaster of Ninjutsu, Masaaki Hatsumi.
